Disclaimer: Let it be known that I have served as a consultant to Odds On. While this review was originally written before they engaged my services I do update it from time to time. This review attempts to be unbiased and mostly sticks to the game rules, odds, and strategy. While I feel comfortable there is no conflict of interest I think it is appropriate to disclose the relationship.

The following game rules are based on the English Harbour casino. It is likely that the Caribbean Gold and Silver dollar also follow these rules since they are part of the same group of casinos. I do not know what rules may be configurable.

The look of the English Harbour games is quite different from that at the Orion Casino, another OddsON casino. In both cases the game play was a bit slow and mechanical for my preferences. However it was easy to jump in and play in both cases.

The game rules have a strong resemblance to those of Microgaming, which are often exactly the same. Unlike Microgaming the player is not restricted to certain bet amounts but may make any bet subject to the table limits. Overall the game rules are sometimes generous and sometimes stingy. For example the video poker and keno returns are among the best on the Internet but the blackjack and craps rules are comparatively tight.

The lower right cell shows a return of 32.25%, or a house edge of 67.75%! For the meter to have no house edge it would need to reach $180209.81.

Craps

OddsON craps players may not bet more than their original wager either buying or laying the odds. The combined house edge on the pass side is 0.85% and on the don’t pass side is 0.82%. Total winnings always get rounded down to the next dollar so be sure to bet in correct increments.

There are win bets, which work and pay the same way as place bets. To bet against a place number the player can make a “lose bet.” These pay 2-5 on the 4 and 10, 4-7 on the 5 and 9, and 4-5 on the 6 and 8. The house on these bets is 6.67%, 5.71%, and 1.82% respectively.

The proposition bets pay the same bad odds as conventional craps.

Island Progressive Stud Poker

This is the same game as Caribbean Stud Poker. The only difference is that in this game there is a modified pay table as follows.

We spent a lot of last week talking about Cloud Party, the new Facebook-driven 3D virtual world that Second Life co-founder Cory Ondrejka is backing as a funder and an adviser, but as it turns out, Cory himself has probably been pre-occupied with more pressing matters: He was recently appointed CTO in charge of Facebook’s incredibly important mobile division, taking that role from Bret Taylor, who stepped down. Pretty impressive to go from the CTO of a virtual world developer with a million users at peak to leading the mobile division of a service with a billion users, in the space of five years. (Cory was fired from Linden Lab in 2007, over a dispute in managerial philosophy with fellow SL founder Philip Rosedale.)

What’s this mean for Cloud Party? Right now, I’d say probably not much:

While some SLers have speculated Cory will push Cloud Party as a Facebook project, the virtual world still only has a thousand users, and while the technology is quite impressive, the 3D graphics of Cloud Party will limit its userbase, at least in the short term. (There are currently no popular Facebook games with full 3D graphics, and the platform, which is still mainly used an office lunch break/lightly engaged social network, is really not conducive to 3D.) That will probably change as tablet-based computing gets more and more popular (I bet Cloud Party will be quite appealing on an iPad and other tablets), but that growth will take some time. It’s possible that Facebook could showcase Cloud Party as a technology prototype, or outright acquire it and integrate it into the game platform, but first, my guess is it’ll have to prove it can attract and retain something far more important: Lots and lots of Facebook users.

That this works at all, and is already incorporating features in Beta which LL refuses to even consider putting into its decade old Metaverse for social platform, tells me that the moment one can be a part without Facebook telling your coworkers and boss which sex palace island you go to, Second Life will be on the ropes. If a customer has the choice between being treated like an inconvenience and treated like a valued customer, they will go to where they are treated like a valued customer.

Personally I think a V2.0 Second Life is way overdue. But I’ve given up hope that LL will ever do anything right, even staring face to face with its own demise.

Aye, what impressed me most is that it took only 9 months to reach this level 🙂 So one wonders what they’ll do in the next 9 months.

As for showcasing Cloud Party as a “cool technology for Facebook”, I concur with Hamlet — it’s not really feasible. Not yet. Cloud Party has still a too “rookie” approach for that.

Now we can speculate that if, a year from now, people can chat/voice across Facebook pages and CP islands, drag a picture from Facebook into CP and see it on a prim, set up privacy settings on the Facebook tab for application settings and see them be reflected immediately on a CP island, “like” items and places on CP and see them on your timeline… well, those would start to be real cool integration attempts between Facebook and CP!

Ironically, you could do all that in SL as well (yes, even voice integration with Facebook users), since Facebook has a lot of APIs (and includes some open protocols like XMPP for chat), if only LL bothered to spend some development time implementing them

Jimmy lay comfortably in the king sized bed, his consciousness somewhere in that nether realm between being awake and asleep. He currently viewed his world from within a numb alcohol induced euphoria.

And what a world it was, Jimmy thought. Everywhere he looked in this luxurious hotel room he saw nothing but class and beauty. From the lovely dark polished wood of the maple cabinet that housed the High Definition TV to the expensive paintings hanging on the walls the accommodations for this high roller were nothing short of first class. And the best part was the Jacuzzi right there in the bedroom. No, on second thought, the best part was the beautiful blond lying beside him. Jimmy chuckled quietly to himself as he tried to remember her name. One thing for sure, he would never forget yesterday’s delight, Beatrice. Yes, memories of Bea would be with him for many years to come. And who knows, maybe he could get Ross to appropriate her services on his behalf again tomorrow.

“Well, every batter gets three strikes don’t he Captain?” The anger in Steve’s voice was beginning to have a sobering effect upon Jimmy.

Steve hung up the house phone and walked down the corridor to the coffee shop. He chose a seat at a table in the corner furthest from the door. When the waitress appeared he ordered a cup of black coffee then leaned back in his chair and tried to calm himself.

Jimmy was out of control. He had become a problem, perhaps more of a liability than an asset. Steve mentally chastised himself for putting someone so young and so obviously lacking in maturity and self discipline into such a responsible position. Yet, even now as he considered his options, it still seemed like the logical choice and indeed it seemed as if he really had no other choice. If they wanted to continue to work Vegas, he and Mack and Lisa had to continue to keep a low profile since they had already been banned from one casino.

Steve had considered making Sam Ruck the anchor man, but although Sam was a good card player, he could neither look nor act the part of a high roller without arousing suspicion. He was a tall thin man in his early 60’s who had run a Mom and Pop Grocery Store in a Chicago suburb for 35 years. He was unrefined in thought, action, and speech. Sam was also one of the most negative individuals Steve had ever encountered. It seemed he had permanently adopted the philosophy that if anything could go wrong it would.

Steve, on the other hand, always liked to think positively and believed that if he put enough effort into any endeavor, things would always work out in the end. As Steve sat there he tried to convince himself to continue to embrace that belief.

But once again, the burning question of the moment was insisting upon an immediate answer. What was he going to do with Jimmy? If the boy didn’t straighten up he would have no choice but to put him on a plane back to Chicago. Not only had his high roller persona gone to his head, but he wasn’t playing very well either. Sam had complained three different times about Jimmy muffing plays. Sam said Jimmy had just played Basic Strategy when it was obvious that a departure was called for. Sam may have been a little upset because Jimmy got the nod as anchor man instead of him, but Steve had also noted a couple of occasions when Jimmy’s play had been questionable. However, both plays had been close calls either way and he actually won one of the hands so Steve let it go.

But Sam had also insisted, while speaking privately to Steve, that Jimmy was genuinely intoxicated while playing and not just acting. Just then Steve looked up and saw Jimmy standing in the doorway of the coffee shop. He waved to him to get his attention then braced himself for the encounter as Jimmy made his way over to the table. This is it, Steve thought. I’m going to lay down the law to the young man and the rest is up to him. But what the hell am I going to do if he doesn’t come through? AIM OF THE GAME

The objective of Keno is for the player to guess which numbers, from 1 to 80, will be randomly selected by the Keno machine. Each time the game is played, the player chooses 1 to 10 numbers (between 1 and 80) and the wagering amount. The Keno machine indicating the winning numbers will then randomly select 20 numbers. The objective is to have as many matches as possible between the numbers chosen by the player, and those randomly selected by the machine. The number of matches will be highlighted and a possible payout will be rewarded based on the number of matches.

HOW TO PLAY

Begin by depositing money into the Keno machine. To do this, you must select a bill type (£100, £50, £20, £10, £5) from the panel at the top right hand corner of the Keno screen. You can toggle through the different bill types by clicking on the panel. Once you have made your selection, deposit the bill into the Keno machine by clicking on the bill deposit area. The amount of coins within the Keno machine is based on the amount deposited and the coin denomination selected and is shown in the CREDIT field in the middle right hand side of the Keno machine. For example, if you deposit £100 when the coin denomination selector (ball in the top left corner) is set to £1, you will see 100 coins in the CREDIT field. Similarly, if you set Roobet Casino the coin denomination to £2 (by clicking the “left arrow” button), you will see that the CREDIT field has changed to 50 coins. The BET field displays the amount of coins you have selected to bet that turn. Please note that the BALANCE field will not change when you change the coin denomination since they show your balance in dollars (not coins). Once you have deposited money into the Keno machine, the next step is to place a bet using the BET or BET MAX buttons. If the BET button is selected, 1 coin will be bet per game while the BET MAX button allows for 5 coins to be bet per game. Intermediate amounts (e.g. £2, £3, and £4 per game) can be selected by pressing the BET button multiple times. Once the bet amount has been selected, you then choose the 1 to 10 numbers you believe will be randomly selected by the Keno machine. This is done by simply clicking on the desired number in the Keno number grid. A number may be unselected by clicking on the same number again. Once you have chosen between 1 and 10 numbers, you now select how many games you would like to play consecutively with those selected numbers using the PLAY ONE, PLAY FIVE, or PLAY TEN buttons. The PLAY ONE option plays the game once, PLAY FIVE plays the game five times, and PLAY TEN plays the game ten times consecutively.

Selecting either the PLAY ONE, PLAY FIVE, or PLAY TEN buttons starts the game. The numbers randomly chosen by the Keno machine are shown by a Keno ball landing in the space of a particular number. A New Jersey bill that would authorize Atlantic City casinos to offer Internet gambling has been introduced in the state’s Assembly, a measure that many expect to draw fire from gambling industry opponents. Assemblymen Anthony Impreveduto and Neil Cohen, both Democrats, call their proposed legislation a “safe-haven bill” that aims to establish Atlantic City as a regulated U.S. jurisdiction for Internet casinos. Business practices by companies operating in this so-called safe-haven would be closely monitored by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, Impreveduto said.

Correct, Donnie, deck penetration measures the quantity of cards that have been dealt before the dealer shuffles the cards. Penetration is usually expressed as the percentage of the deck already dealt, for example, “65%” or about 34 cards on a single deck.

Penetration is extremely important to card counters, but not indispensable for basic strategy players like you. Unless the dealer is outright cheating, or indulging in preferential shuffling thinking that plenty of 10s remain in the deck, the cards should be in a random order after each shuffle.

Bottom line: If the player is not counting down the deck and there’s no preferential shuffling, there is no advantage to the basic strategy player if the dealer were to allow 20% penetration, then shuffle, or plunge on to the 90% penetration level.

Double for less is to double down with less than your original bet. When the rules permit doubling, the player does not have to actually double his bet, but can increase it by any amount up to, but never more than, the original wager.

If it ever happens again, Chuck, which I doubt it will, hold up your play and call over the pit boss. He will let you take your shot at an extra $10.

One more thought, readers. Because you only double down when you are more likely to win the hand than lose, you always want to wager the maximum amount. It is the double downs and blackjacks that jiggle your blackjack play from the red into the black. Do not shortchange yourself in these situations. Chuck just happened to be light in the pocketbook.
